The Vienna Contemporary 2015 presentations display fruit bags, an edition of 7 individually crafted objects, developed in collaboration with upcoming London based artist May Hands. Featuring garnish, applications and fillings of everyday materials, some of the pieces recall the finery of richly adorned bird’s nests.
May Hands draws attention to the aesthetic properties of fruit and vegetable packaging – from the text style and label colours, to the plastic net containers and paper cushioning – celebrating the often-unnoticed beauty of their presentation. Elegant stitching and embroidery combine with the raw materials to create each unique and hand-made work.
