PORTRAIT_
May Hands, born 1990 in Brighton, UK, graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, London in 2013 with a BA in Fine Art/Painting.
She fast arose interest in the art world with object-oriented paintings of contrasting colours and transparencies. For her works May Hands employs both conventional and unconventional materials that reflect our modern visual and material environment.
A reoccuring element are the plastic bags and packagings of mass luxury fashion brands, trophies of emotionalized rituals of consumption. As well as every day objects.
May Hands will have her first solo exhibition with T293, Rome in 2015. Past exhibitions include solo shows: ‘Objects’ at Camberwell College of Art Library, London, 2012 and ‘Work Programme 23’ at Community Arts Centre, Brighton, 2013. She has been included in several group exhibitions, including most recently ‘May Hands / Emanuel Röhss’ at T293, Naples 2014 and ‘More or Less’ at Peckham Springs Gallery, London 2013.
