Liliane Lijn was born in 1939 in the USA and lives in London since 1966, after she had spent some years first in Paris, later in Athens. She was the first woman artist to work with kinetic text (poem machines), exploring both light and text as early as 1962. Utilising highly original combinations of industrial materials and artistic processes, Lijn is recognised for pioneering the interaction of art, science, technology, eastern philosophy and female mythology. Lijn is particularly known for her timeless, cone-shaped Koan series. She had solo shows at Il Museo della Canapa, Sant’Anatolia di Narco, Italy, and Tate Britain, London, amongst others and participated in many festivals such as the Roundhouse and Trafalgar Square, London. She has been awarded various fellowships, e.g. the ACE International Artist Fellowship, Space Sciences Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, in partnership with the NASA.
Liliane Lijn wurde 1939 in den USA geboren und lebt seit 1966 in London, nachdem sie einige Jahre zuerst in Paris, später in Athen verbrachte. Sie war die erste Künstlerin, die mit kinetischen Texten (Gedichtmaschinen) arbeitete. Seit 1962 setzt sie sich intensiv mit Licht und Text auseinander. Lijn verwendet höchst originelle Kombinationen von Industriematerialien mit künstlerischen Prozessen und ist somit eine anerkannte Pionierin der Interaktion von Kunst, Wissenschaft, Technologie, östlicher Philosophie und weiblicher Mythologie. Lijn ist besonders bekannt für ihre zeitlose, kegelförmige Koan Serie. Sie hatte Einzelausstellungen unter anderem im Il Museo della Canapa, in Sant’Anatolia di Narco, Italien, Tate Britain, London, und nahm an vielen Festivals wie dem Roundhouse und Trafalgar Square, London teil. Sie hat verschiedene Stipendien erhalten, z.B. das ACE International Artist Fellowship, Space Sciences Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, in Partnerschaft mit der NASA.
